Mathematical psychology is broadly defined to include work of a theoretical character that uses mathematical methods, formal logic, or computer simulation. The Society journal is the Journal of Mathematical Psychology.

Postdoc Position on Network Modeling

Francis Tuerlinckx (KU Leuven, Belgium) and Denny Borsboom (University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands) have a joint postdoctoral position. The position is in the Research Group of Quantitative Psychology and Individual Differences at KU Leuven but involves frequent travel to and contact with the Psychological Methods group in Amsterdam.

Research: The research of the postdoc will be part of a larger program aimed at developing and applying methods for network analysis in psychology and psychopathology (see a recent review on the topic: Borsboom & Cramer, 2013). The specific research topic will depend on the expertise and interest of the candidate, but will involve one or more of the following: Statistical methods for high dimensional data, multilevel modeling, or nonlinear dynamical models.

Environment: The Research Group of Quantitative Psychology and Individual Differences at the KU Leuven is an international, productive, collaborative, and interactive environment with about 4 faculty and 17 other graduate and postgraduate students. Leuven is one of the oldest university towns in Europe, about 30 km from Brussels. It has a rich history, culture and night life, and a unique friendly atmosphere. Belgium is at the heart of Europe, and Amsterdam, Paris, London, and so on are within hours.

Qualifications: Applicants should have (1) a PhD in (quantitative) psychology, psychometrics, statistics, econometrics, engineering, computer sciences, physics, mathematics, or related field, (2) excellent English communication and writing skills, and (c) expertise and interest in mathematical, statistical and/or computational modeling. Experience with time series analysis is an asset. Knowledge of Dutch is not required.

Terms of employment: We offer a competitive salary with various additional benefits (in terms of holidays, health insurance, transport costs), excellent research facilities, and conference and travel budget. The postdoc will be appointed for one year, one time renewable. Starting date is open to negotiation, but no earlier than February 1, 2014.
