MathPsych / ICCM 2026

About MathPsych / ICCM 2026

The 58th Annual Meeting of the Society for Mathematical Psychology (MathPsych) and the 23rd International Conference on Cognitive Modeling (ICCM) will take place at Le Centre Sheraton Montreal, Canada from July 17-21, 2026.

July 17, 2026, will be dedicated to workshops, and a Women of Mathematical Psychology-sponsored Professional Development Symposium Event. Talks and keynotes will take place July 18 to 20, 2026.  The annual ACT-R Workshop will also be held at Le Centre Sheraton Montreal Hotel on July 21, 2026.

The conference showcases leading research on mathematical and computational theories of human cognition. We welcome contributions from the complete spectrum of formal approaches to modeling cognition, including connectionism, symbolic modeling, dynamical systems, Bayesian modeling, and cognitive architectures.

Submissions can be submitted via the SMP 2026 conference website at https://mathpsych.org/conference/23/ or the ICCM 2026 conference website at https://iccmsociety.org/2026_meeting/. The submission deadline is February 28, 2026, 23.59 anywhere on Earth. Decisions will be made by April 30, 2026. There will be no extensions on submission deadlines. This is to help us reach decisions on submissions promptly so people can obtain visas and make travel plans.

Authors can submit for a special fast track poster decision, which will be made by March 13, 2026 (submit as "EARLY CONSIDERATION - MathPsych Poster @ MathPsych/ICCM 2026 IN-PERSON"). We hope this helps authors who need to apply for visas. If authors like, we will still consider the submission for a spoken presentation, but those decisions will not be posted until April 30, 2026. Note that if you would like to present a spoken presentation, you should submit twice -- both an early consideration submission and a talk submission.

*NEW THIS YEAR* This year, the virtual and in-person meetings will be integrated to allow for more global engagement. Note, this will not be a fully hybrid conference. We will do this in a few ways:
  1. Attendees who cannot travel to the in-person meeting can submit SMP/ICCM presentations (talks or fast talks), which will be reviewed in the usual way. These submissions will include a video recording, which will be disseminated prior to in-person meeting. During the in-person meeting, there may be a few opportunities for virtual speakers to engage with the in-person attendees such as a general Q&A session, or a limited number of ‘featured’ virtual talks.
  2. There will be one hybrid conference room, equipped with an Owl Labs Smart Device, to facilitate interaction among virtual and in-person registrants. Attendees may submit a hybrid symposia or workshop proposal, where at least the lead organizer is in-person, and a minimum of one presenter is virtual.
  3. The Society will record live presentations at the in-person meeting and disseminate them online after the conclusion of the meeting. These talks will be posted alongside virtual submissions, and the talks can be viewed asynchronously anytime.

Important Dates:
  • Submission Period Open: December 19, 2026 (Friday)
  • Symposium Submission Period Ends (Virtual and In-Person): February 14, 2026 (Saturday)

Submission instructions

MathPsych Talk
In-person MathPsych Talks are spoken presentations accompanied by a slide deck. Each speaker is assigned a 20-minute presentation slot, which is typically divided into 15 minutes for presenting and 5 minutes of question time. MathPsych Talk submissions are abstracts with a maximum 250 words submitted for a MathPsych talk, indicating preference for a talk.

Submissions not accepted as a MathPsych Talk will be considered for a MathPsych Poster.

If you wish to give a talk but need to get an early decision (which will only guarantee a poster), then you should submit both a MathPsych Talk and an “EARLY CONSIDERATION - MathPsych Poster @ MathPsych/ICCM 2026 IN-PERSON" presentation.

MathPsych Poster
In-person MathPsych Posters are interactive presentations given during the live poster sessions. Submissions are MathPsych abstracts with a maximum 250 words submitted to MathPsych, indicating preference for a poster.  In-person MathPsych Poster dimensions will be announced in early May after acceptance. Presenters will be given a time and place to mount their poster, as well as a time during which the poster is "attended" -- meaning that you should be there for people to ask you questions.

Abstracts submitted with a preference for a poster are not considered for MathPsych talks.

If you wish to submit a poster or talk for an early decision, be sure to submit it as "EARLY CONSIDERATION - MathPsych Poster @ MathPsych/ICCM 2026 IN-PERSON" rather than a regular poster.

ICCM Full Paper
Full ICCM papers can be up to six pages in length, with up to one additional page of citations. Full paper submissions will be evaluated by peer review. Abstracts and author information for full papers must be submitted by the end of the submission period (February 28, 2026). Submissions can be updated to add the full manuscript until March 13, 2026.

Papers accepted as talks will be in-person spoken presentations accompanied by a slide deck. Each speaker is assigned a 20-minute presentation slot, which is typically divided into 15 minutes for presenting and 5 minutes of question time.

Papers not accepted as talks may be accepted as posters.

All accepted papers will be published in the ICCM Conference Proceedings. Final versions of proceedings papers will be due by 30 June 2026.

The Allen Newell Prize will be awarded to the Best Student-led ICCM Paper. Please make sure to indicate if the first author of a paper is a student when making submissions.

If you are interested in acting as a reviewer for ICCM, please let us know by filling out a reviewer interest survey: https://forms.gle/RjsigmP2k6HseJ276

ICCM Publication-Supported Abstract
As an alternative to full paper submissions, a maximum one-page abstract describing work recently published in other forums or an extension of a previously published project may be submitted. Submissions in this category must include a reference to a recently published paper (within 3 years) by the submitting author.

Publication-Supported Abstracts will be considered for talks, which will be given in-person, accompanied by a slide deck. Each speaker is assigned a 20-minute presentation slot, which is typically divided into 15 minutes for presenting and 5 minutes of question time.

Publication-Supported Abstracts not accepted as talks may be accepted as posters.

Publication-Supported Abstracts will NOT be published in the ICCM Conference Proceedings.

ICCM Poster
Short abstracts, maximum of 250 words, may be submitted for consideration as ICCM posters only.

In-person ICCM Poster dimensions will be announced in early May after acceptance. Presenters will be given a time and place to mount their poster, as well as a time during which the poster is "attended" -- meaning that you should be there for people to ask you questions.

ICCM Poster abstracts will NOT be published in the ICCM Conference Proceedings.

SMP/ICCM Symposium or Talk in a Symposium
Symposia are blocks of talks, panel discussion, and/or other activities on a relatively narrow topic. Symposium summary submissions should be a maximum of 1 page, including a symposium title, a 250 word abstract of the symposium overall. The organizer(s) may already have some speakers in mind, and they can be listed on the proposal submission, but the selected topics will be published on the website prior to the submission deadline and authors can submit abstracts to be considered for inclusion as well.  As symposium organizer(s), you will be asked to select which of the submitted abstracts you would like to include. The organizer should submit a summary of the symposium separately. Each talk within a symposium should submit their talks individually.

Hybrid Symposium There is the possibility of supporting some virtual participation, please indicate if this is desired. Please note that there are a limited number of hybrid slots available. For a hybrid symposium, the organizer who submits the proposal must commit to being present and in-person for the meeting.

Talk in a Symposium Symposium talks should be submitted individually by the lead author of each talk ("Talk in a Symposium @ MathPsych/ICCM 2026 IN-PERSON") and should include a title and abstract of no more than 250 words.  When you submit the abstract, please indicate in the “Optional Comment” field the proposed symposium title to which the talk belongs.

Symposia topics may be submitted to either MathPsych or ICCM. MathPsych Symposia will be reviewed by the MathPsych conference committee and ICCM Symposia will be reviewed by the ICCM conference committee. Symposium talk submissions that are not accepted as part of a symposium will be reviewed for regular MathPsych or ICCM presentations.

SMP/ICCM Workshops or Tutorials
Workshops and tutorials are half-day sessions, up to 4 hours, that target teaching or workshop-style discussions on a topic or technique of interest to the Math Psych and/or ICCM communities.

Workshops and tutorials will take place on July 17, 2026.

Workshop and Tutorial submissions should be up to 1 page in length and contain the following information:
  • Title and Organizers,
  • A 250-word abstract outlining the proposed workshop/tutorial topic and objectives,
  • List of the tutorial or workshop leads and what each contributes to the session,
  • Proposed schedule for the workshop/tutorial execution,
  • Description of information technology, audio-visual equipment, or material needs to execute or support the session.

Hybrid Workshop/Tutorial There is the possibility of supporting some virtual participation, please indicate if this is desired. Please note that there are a limited number of hybrid slots available. For a hybrid workshop/tutorial, the organizer who submits the proposal must commit to being present and in-person for the meeting on July 17, 2026.
