Postdoc in Bayesian cognitive modeling at Penn State

The Pennsylvania State University, Center for Healthy Aging, invites applications for a postdoctoral position to help carry out a project, funded by National Institute on Aging, on discovering digital biomarkers to detect early signs of subtle cognitive decline related to ADRD. This is an opportunity for an emerging scholar to engage in a project that combines mobile health technology, psychometric testing, and Bayesian cognitive modeling. The team of investigators includes faculty from Penn State, who are experts in ecological momentary assessment, mobile health, longitudinal data analysis, Bayesian cognitive modeling, and developmental science, with special focus on aging.

Primary responsibilities will include contributing to the development of Bayesian cognitive models to account for retest learning effects, psychometric analysis of the cognitive performance data, preparation of manuscripts and conference presentations, and mentoring of junior researchers. Qualified individuals will have a Ph.D., relevant research experience, and strong writing skills. Background in latent variable modeling (psychometrics, cognitive modeling, Bayesian data analysis, structural equation modeling) and statistical programming skills (preferably R and Stan) is required, substantive background in cognitive processes of aging is a strong plus. The appointment will be for one year, with secured funding for at least one additional year depending on performance. The position provides salary and benefits.

To be considered for this position, applications must be submitted electronically and should include (1) a letter of application including date of defense (month and year), date of availability; (2) "Statement of Interests”, which summarizes research experience and interest, (3) curriculum vitae; and (4) the names and addresses of three professional references. This post-doctoral position is scheduled to begin in January 2022, however, the starting date is negotiable. For more information, please contact Zita Oravecz (zita@psu.edu).
